From Caracas, you can drive to Coro which was the first capital of Venezuela. Steeped in rich colonial architecture, it offers an abundance of unique natural scenery and tourist attractions. Its historical downtown is considered as a cultural World Heritage Site, and is a must-see. Mérida, a charming university town in the Andes mountains, is popular for outdoor activities and offers an abundance of small town activities and is definitely worth a short stop on any longer term trip around the country.
