Singapore is widely regarded as one of the safest and cleanest cities to travel in Asia – and not without good reason. Given its history, which combines Chinese, British and Malay influences, amongst others, there is a strong tourist industry in this lovely country that is sure to keep you entertained. One of the most interesting results of this is the open-minded attitude to culture that it has given birth to in recent years – this can particularly be seen in the variation in places of worship on offer, from Christianity, Islam and Hinduism to Taoism, Buddhism and Sikhism and more. After a tumultuous history, it became fully independent in 1965, and has been enchanting visitors the world over ever since.
It is also home to twelve of the most beautiful lakes in the world, which makes hiring a car from Singapore's Changi Airport to admire this scenery highly recommended. The many attractions include The Helix Bridge and The Marina Bay is home to some world-class shopping facilities. With the many festivals throughout the year, which gives a real party atmosphere, you will be sure to enjoy yourself on a visit here. You can also experience the various different ethnicities best in the different quarters, including Chinatown, Kampong Glam, Little India, Joo Chiat and Katong. The Natural Reserves, and other areas such as the MacRitchie Reservoir give way to some lovely walks through forested areas, and you can enjoy the relative peace and serenity that this is bound to evoke.
Those interested in more natural pursuits will also find several opportunities to follow them up – either by visiting some of the many nature reserves that are dotted around the island, or by visiting some of the traditional small villages, such as Pulau Ubin. Sentosa Island is also a wonderful retreat from the hustle and bustle of the centre – a paradise for sun seekers.
